Long Term Substitute - Language Arts
The West York Area School District is currently reviewing applications for a Long Term Substitute position at our Middle School location. All applicants must have proper teacher certification with instructional methodology and good human relations.
Job functions include but, are not limited to the following:
*Promote the student's welfare and proper educational development in keeping with the accepted theories of child growth and development.
*Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff members and parents.
*Assist with cocurricular and other duties as determined by the building principal.
*Observe proper and professional lines of communication concerning district policies, procedures, and methods.
*Keep accurate records of students' evaluations reporting to the parent or guardian the progress and adjustment.
*Interpret the curriculum through contact with the parents and daily contact with students.
*Provide for the care and proper usage of school property and maintain current inventory used for instructional purposes.
*Cooperate with and participate in the planning and evaluation of the school program.
*Assist with, as needed and participate in the in-service programs offered in the schools.
*Read publications and professional materials to keep abreast of studies, new techniques, and materials designed to improve instruction.
*Contribute in the development of and support for building and district goals.
*Follow planned course objectives and time requirements for teaching assignments.
*Oversee teacher aides in the performance of their duties.
The successful candidate will posses the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: (The WYASD will provide reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disability Act.)
*Must be able to speak clearly and distinctively; be able to read correspondence/computer screen; and have an auditory acuity sufficient to communicate via phone.
*Must be courteous, congenial, cooperative, service-oriented, able to work independently or in a team (as circumstances warrant), and able to work with frequent interruptions.
*Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time; walk throughout buildings; climb stairs; lift/carry at least 20 pounds; and bend, twist, reach, stoop, grasp, and have sufficient dexterity to operate office equipment.
*Must be able to communicate effectively with students, personnel at all levels, and members of the public; follow written and verbal directions; provide direction and motivate peers; read and comprehend at an advanced level; perform complex computations; write/correspond clearly, concisely, and effectively at a post-secondary level; work independently or in a team; interpret and follow district policies, regulations, and work rules; and exercise good judgment.
